Hey it's 2016, When Did That Happen?

Another year is upon us, what are you going to do? I don't make resolutions because I won't follow through with them. It is sort of like starting things on a Monday that doesn't happen either. Though I did come up with a new writing challenge. I spent a lot of time focusing on poetry the last few years and I thought I should focus on fiction, short stories to be exact.

I don't have a lot of good stories. Of course two years from now, I may think my current stories are poo (I wish a poo emoji right about now). I don't have a lot to send away to magazines except what I do for school.  I used to write short stories all the time too, back in the day when I used to think writing anything more than two thousands words a lot. Inspired by the Ray Bradbury quote about writing a short story every week that you are bound to have a couple of gems.

That's the challenge, one short story written and revised every week with a word limit of 4000 words.  That is 52 stories in one year, this is something I should do in my sleep. I have the skills I suppose I need the dedication.

And more dedication is where I will be in 2016. I wrote a writing goal list for all the works in progress, I will finish them all, writing anyway.  

For the current project, I did think of an idea to help with the challenge. And that is using the same main character for a bunch of short stories. Her name is Gerry Meyer (Geraldine Frances Meyer) and she is half demon. I have many adventures planned for her. The hardest part will be writing complete short stories instead of novel chapters.

I am working on assembling the poetry collage book from last year's challenge and that should be ready sometime this month. It will be ready for print probably in March. So keep your eyes open.

Happy December 1

I am happy to report that I did win this year at Nanowrimo! In fact, I hit 50,000 words last week almost a full week before the end of November. My novel is tentatively called Havana, WV but that may change since I never really liked the title, it is more of a place holder. Last night, once we ate dinner, I was sort of lost without writing. The sad part is I have three stories I am working on that need to be finished. I need to pick on and get back on track.

In the meantime, I decided I am going to hardcore edit and revise last year's novel Gone Before Dawn. It needs organization and a well defined timeline. That is what I am working on now. It will be broken into defined chapters that also signify time as well since it takes place in two different dimensions. I really believe this is novel and truth to be told the one I just wrote is something a publisher will want to publish. I even decided on submitting Gone Before Dawn to YA publishers.

I don't set with the intent of writing YA novels, it just happened that way.  Is it too cocky to think that I have a decent novel or novels? I suppose it could also be called confidence but to me it seems like I am full of myself which I am not. Are writer's allowed to think their work is okay or dare I say decent? 

The next term in school started and I am taking poetry workshop two and playwriting workshop. Both classes I am really looking forward to. 

I still want to write a couple of short stories for an upcoming ebook and I am wondering why I can't whip out a short story. I am looking into prompts and whatnots but nothing is inspiring, so if you have prompts please share them. I really would like to start writing a short story at least once a month if not more.

So that's about all for today, I am going to work on some poetry for class.

Seaspring Briar by JM Scott FREE 11.15

Hey all, The wind is really crazy out tonight. Sometimes it makes me think there is a snow storm, but when I go out there is nothing. Although the weather folk are calling for snow showers  later tonight. That is something to look forward to. 

A couple of weeks ago, I released my latest ebook, Seaspring Biar on Kindle. It is now free for the next few days! Woo hoo.

This is a long short story and comes in around 12,000 words, if you care about those kinds of things. I wrote many years ago and it was originally  published in an old blog. I really believe this story was decent. It is amazing the more I write and the more I stay dedicated to it, the more I find my earlier stuff to be kind of sub par and not worth  my time editing and creating an ebook out of it. Yet, this story was different. I always liked this story.

What is it about? Briar Rowen is a recent divorcee who decides to live in the family home, Seaspring Briar, which is on the coast of Maine. When she moves in, she realizes her dead great grandparents still reside within in the walls. It is up to Briar to set them free or become a permanent resident herself.  There is some spooky scenes and one bloody scene. It is definitely more of a haunted house story than anything else.

What do you think about the cover? I was a bit leery of the minimalist approach but I really like it. The white is also something that I don't normally use but if I would have changed the background color to black the blood splatter would not be as pronounced. Sometimes it is nice to have a simple book cover. I think it really grabs someone's attention simply because of the image and the white background.

The Wolf's Red Rose by JM Scott FREE

Hey all, Just wanted to let you know that The Wolf's Red Rose is FREE until Wednesday.  Following this promotion, my newest release will be free.  This story is a retelling of the popular fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood. It is told from the point of view of the wolf and explains why he went after grandma and little red riding hood.

Years ago, it started with a writing prompt. I never finished the story. As I was going through an old journal and typing up all the good stuff from it I came upon this story and I thought hey this isn't so bad.   I hope you grab a free copy and read it. It is a short story and it reads quick.

Halloween Treat- Moonswallow Gates by JM Scott FREE

Hey all, just wanted to let you know that Moonswallow Gates is free for the next few days. I did change this book. As you can see the cover is new and the inside is the same but I went through it again and fixed whatever needed fixed. I hope you pick up a copy and I really do hope you enjoy it.

I just signed up for Nanowrimo, yesterday in fact. I wasn't decided on what I was going to do. But tell you what, I need to get out of this slump and I thought this would be perfect. I don't have much of a plot,  but I have the beginning. The novel has no name as of yet and the main character is a woman or should I say a teen but she has no name. I think I am going to write at the seat of my pants for this one. Oh yeah I am going to write stream of consciousness,  and I am kind of excited.

In the immediate future, I am working on a long short story ebook called "Seaspring Briar". It's about 6 or more years old. My style is a lot different now but I think Seaspring has merit. It is a haunted house story. I really love my haunted houses.  I'll let you know when it is available for Kindle. So that's about it.

Wish me luck or cheer me on this November because I really need it. So many days these last few weeks, I just wanted to quit but I just can't. It's too much apart of who I am .
