Haiku 1

assaulting dandruff
from naughty earthen angels
obscure winter’s night

once again I find
myself soaring high
a mouse to the ground

scintillating breath
awkward moon phases
to find freedom’s door

yellow metal diamond
dancing deer
next three miles

Just a little note about these haiku and many more to come... At the beginning of this year I decided that I needed a project to write more. Sure I could have said I want to write a novel (which I was working on a novel but I, for some reason, don't seem to stay too dedicated to it) but I went with something smaller- way smaller. I decided to write 3 haiku everyday from January 1, 2012 all the way to December 31, 2012. About 90% of the time I do write 3 haiku everyday, sometimes I may skip a day but I write 6 the next day.  My poor notebook that I write these haiku in is incredibly battered, filled with coffee stains and faded pencils marks.

The project is entitled This Salacious Life and the preceeding was a selection from it. I have plenty more to post, so if you like haiku and like those I hope you come back in the future.

Poultrygeist: Night of the Living Chicken

I love Netflix. I've had it for over a year now. It is so much better than watching PBS all the time or getting cable which is not a good deal at all. One thing I love about Netflix is the horror movies.

I watched Poultrygeist: Night of the Living Chicken a week or so ago and well it is a fine movie in the Troma tradition. Storyline (yeah if you want to call it) for the movie in a nutshell: a franchise chicken restaurant is built on ancient Indian (as in Native American) burial grounds. And voila you have zombie man eating chickens that walk like humans. And of course the movie takes place in lovely Tromaville ( the same place where the Toxic Avenger saves the day and high school is radioactive).

If you ever watched any Troma movie before than you will be probably pleased there are rauchy sex jokes, blood scenes, and all the cheesy B movie stuff you come to love about Troma movies. This particular movie has singing and a dance scene.

I was introduced to this line of movies years ago by first a friend and then I watched a couple here and there through the years. Sure, Netflix labels this movie as horror but I know better. At least the gore is great. The story line is kind of cheesy. Would I clear an hour and twenty minutes to watch this movie? No. But if you are bored and looking for something to watch then this is a good choice.

Saturday

The contemplative lake rests
in obsidian luxury under
halcyon skies, juicy
little tadpoles sleek like curved
leeches glide under the glass surface.
Pine trees grapple the cotton candy
clouds and throw them below lazy lily pads.

This moment Saturdays are eternal,
a flame captured on film,
brief lapse of worry
carefree children of summer,
secrets and pirate adventures.

My childhood friend now
has a child and a job and I
wonder what does she think of
days like this. A past of smiling
good times or a future of grandchildren
flying kites in the park.

Where do our lives go when
the sun slips away and we
find ourselves twenty years
older gentle wrinkles around the eyes
wishing to dream on sand dunes
while cicadas mimic talk
miles away from any beach

before the struggle of adulthood begins.

A Big Hello from the Great Beyond

Today, August 24, 2012 is the start of something new. Well something new for me anyway...

Welcome to my little peice of the internet. I am a writer (okay not like a famous writer and I don't have any books published in fact I have been slacking big time on the whole writing thing but that is a story for another time) and I want people out there in the world or maybe another galaxy to read what I write. Not to say that I am going to always post some kind of creative writing but that will be a large part of this blog.

I have so many plans and ideas for this blog and I don't want to list them all here because I will change my mind often. One thing you can count on is this I will write and publish on here original stories and poems. I will be writing specfically for the online audience. I would like to write a story that you find yourself reading on the subway and you miss your stop or your dinner burns. If that happens to you let me know I would love to know I was the cause of you being late for work or the kids eating pizza for dinner.

I am a person too so I might ramble on about nothing or vent about the world at large. Really who is to tell what I put on here.

Well I hope you join me on this adventure on all things possible and impossible.
