Life in Shadows

In the afternoon
the devil zeppelin
in the sepulture café
destroys pretty young things

he’s certain
the debonair delivery
of the silver medalist mummy
is going dark

and this soul society
is a tedious payphone
surging offbeat nuclei
to wipe obscurity out

as cobblestone crawfish become
the topic sentence
in the old Radio Flyer.

In the seat of the plastic
garden chair,
the devil zeppelin is
a former turbulence,
a nervous bootlegger,
a savage certification
of life in shadows.

Many words gathered from Google search results for the phrase "post-hypnotic woodpile," pages 1-5.   Enjoy!

Seaspring Briar by JM Scott FREE 11.15

Hey all, The wind is really crazy out tonight. Sometimes it makes me think there is a snow storm, but when I go out there is nothing. Although the weather folk are calling for snow showers  later tonight. That is something to look forward to.

A couple of weeks ago, I released my latest ebook, Seaspring Biar on Kindle. It is now free for the next few days! Woo hoo.

This is a long short story and comes in around 12,000 words, if you care about those kinds of things. I wrote many years ago and it was originally  published in an old blog. I really believe this story was decent. It is amazing the more I write and the more I stay dedicated to it, the more I find my earlier stuff to be kind of sub par and not worth  my time editing and creating an ebook out of it. Yet, this story was different. I always liked this story.

What is it about? Briar Rowen is a recent divorcee who decides to live in the family home, Seaspring Briar, which is on the coast of Maine. When she moves in, she realizes her dead great grandparents still reside within in the walls. It is up to Briar to set them free or become a permanent resident herself.  There is some spooky scenes and one bloody scene. It is definitely more of a haunted house story than anything else.

What do you think about the cover? I was a bit leery of the minimalist approach but I really like it. The white is also something that I don't normally use but if I would have changed the background color to black the blood splatter would not be as pronounced. Sometimes it is nice to have a simple book cover. I think it really grabs someone's attention simply because of the image and the white background.

So  grab your free copy today. I hope you enjoy it. I better get working on my novel.

Till next time...

Nanowrimo 2015- The First Week

I decided three days before November 1, 2015 to participate in Nanowrimo again this year.  I went with a bunch of images. Right before the big day I got the main character's name. I am writing this thing by the seat of my pants much like I do all the time. It is actually quite thrilling just going where the story takes you. This year, the novel I am working on is tentatively called Havana, WV. The main character is named Armory Stanton, she is sixteen, on the run for murder and she is immune to all magic. Havana happens to be a place where everyone is magical and this is where she winds up. Because she is immune to magic, she becomes the next sheriff of the town.  There is a vague plot line so far which it will become stronger the more I wrote.

So what really pushed me into writing this year? I think it is how  the novel will be written that will make the difference. After spending a couple of days reading about stream of conscious work, I decided I should try it.  I think this really helps with my excitement with the story because I feel like I am in her head. It is a lot of fun.

It does seem as though I have been using a lot of teens in my work lately. I have no idea since I don't really read YA fiction. I think there has to be more than young people as the main characters to be YA. I have been thinking about it, maybe I should I try YA book publishers for last year's novel Gone Before Dawn. I don't know it might be too much for that age group.  Though I didn't realize Twilight  was young adult either, so I suppose the line is very blurred and it seems to me that big difference is the age of the main character.

Back to this year though, I am 12000 words in. I plan on writing quite  a bit today since I  have a free day where I am catching up on things not related to school.

Till next time...

The Wolf's Red Rose by JM Scott FREE

Hey all, Just wanted to let you know that The Wolf's Red Rose is FREE until Wednesday.  Following this promotion, my newest release will be free.  This story is a retelling of the popular fairy tale, Little Red Riding Hood. It is told from the point of view of the wolf and explains why he went after grandma and little red riding hood.

Years ago, it started with a writing prompt. I never finished the story. As I was going through an old journal and typing up all the good stuff from it I came upon this story and I thought hey this isn't so bad.   I hope you grab a free copy and read it. It is a short story and it reads quick.

Till next time....
